2006 Northeast Regional Championship and Supercross National For many riders, this weekend capped off a great season of racing in the northeast and for others signaled the beginning of a new season. Whichever was the case, the racing action was great in Woodward, Pennsylvania. The Regional Championship took place under the old classing and points system. In national action the story was the new class structure. For those who have not been introduced to it yet, get ready. The biggest changes come in the form of a new 17-24 class for Experts and Novices. Also, the "Pro" ranks are no more as the classes have been split as follows. There is new Super X class. This is a high level money expert class open to racers 16 & Over. The Junior Men class is now open to riders who will be of age 17 or 18 on December 31st of 2007 and finally the Elite Men's class is now reserved for riders 19 & Over as of December 31st, 2007. At Elite and UCI races, these classes will be divided, while at Big A Amateur Nationals, these classes will collectively make the Elite Open class. Similar classes have been put in place for women. And finally, the points system has been changed. Main points are now the focus. This is certain to boost the intensity at the races in 2007. The lighting this weekend was not so great, so a lot of the pictures are a bit on the blurry side, and we apologize for that. With all of that being said, check out the racing action. |
